Childrens Classes

The Test Valley School of Dance offers children’s dance classes in Classical Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary & Acrobatic Dance. Most classes are suitable for boys and girls from age 3. The school is affiliated with professional, recognised teaching bodies, such as the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD), iD-Dance and Acrobatic Arts.

Our spacious dance studio at Woodley Village Hall features mirrored walls and professional ballet barres, where our fully qualified and experienced teaching staff help students unleash their dancing potential. The school is fully insured and all staff are DBS (enhanced) checked.

Classes amalgamate both RAD & ISTD syllabus classes and free work to create fun and rewarding lessons. All students are invited to take part in our bi-annual school performances and workshops with professional dancers. In addition The School also hosts regular RAD and ISTD exams and we have a 100% pass rate. Students may also be invited to take part in local and national dance festivals and competitions.

Whether for fun and fitness or to improve technique and develop new skills, all our dance classes provide an excellent outlet for youngsters to express themselves within a structured environment, boosting their creative capacity, developing confidence and improving balance, coordination and body awareness.

Acrobatic Dance is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Classes follow the Acrobatic Arts professional curriculum, designed to promote excellence in tumbling, flexibility, strength, balance, contortion and partner/group stunting for dancers. Dancers who train through Acrobatic Arts have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless. Acrobatic Dance should be taken in addition to another dance style, such as ballet, contemporary or modern.

RAD Ballett

Some say that Classical Ballet is the most important discipline for someone who wants to dance. Ballet forms the basis for many other dance styles as it helps develop strength, posture, grace, co-ordination, technique and musical awareness. Classes follow the RAD Syllabus, from Pre-Primary up to vocational levels.

RAD Ballet & AcroDance Combination Classes

All of our Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet classes contain an element of Pre-School Acro Dance. This program is entirely complimentary to ballet education and greatly assists with many aspects of physical development, anatomical awareness, balance and co-ordination.

Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. The iD-Dance syllabus encompasses all methods of contemporary dance training, release, fall and recovery, direction changes, isolations, core strengthening, connecting with the floor and improvisation.

ISTD Jazz Dance

Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos, and commercials. Jazz Dance is the ideal way to develop well-rounded dance skills. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.

ISTD Modern Theatre Dance

This style of dance is a rhythmic, dynamic highly energetic. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. Modern Theatre Dance uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns which all need strength and flexibility.

Pre-School Dance

This combination class allows younger students to experience the foundations of all of the various dance genres. Moving to a variety of modern music, classical music and even nursery rhymes, children will be encouraged to be loud and rhythmical in the tap dance section, graceful in ballet and dynamic and dramatic in the modern section of the class. The focus in each class will be on imaginative and fun learning, whilst affording students a key understanding of dance.

ISTD Tap Dance

Tap dancing is a fun & rhythmical style of dance which is a great way of developing musicality, co-ordination and skill. Tap dancing is a great choice for all ages; starting with easy steps to fun music for younger students who delight in hearing the noise of the shoes on the floor, and for older students who will gain a depper knowledge and understanding of tap technique so that they can execute more technically complex rhythms and timing.
